THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO FOR OUR COMMUNITY & AND ALL THAT YOU ARE!

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A HEALER?

We aspire to hire 30-60 Black healers, performers, educators, activists, and artists to create sacred, uplifting, loving, and restorative spaces for Black people to come together and focus on our Emotional & Spiritual Health, Joy & Wellbeing, Creativity & Self Expression.

We are looking for seasoned, well-practiced facilitators to create spaces that can:

  • Serve unique Black Identities and Affinities,
  • Support us to have tender conversations across difference, and
  • Offer healing and pleasurable experiences that serve all of us.

THE TYPES OF WORKSHOPS, PERFORMANCES, SACRED SPACES, AND OTHER OFFERINGS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • Support people to breathe, release, move, dance, sing, create, imagine, learn something new, and experience our bodies and each other’s company with joy and reverence
  • Foster vulnerable, heart centered spaces that invite serenity, ease, positivity, hope, and loving connection
  • Offer tools and experiences to help people healthfully navigate the rage, hurt, traumas, exhaustion, and pain they may be experiencing
  • Nurture the sustainability and wellbeing of our activists and protestors, our parents and families, and Black folks who experience marginalization and exclusion within the Black community
  • Are family friendly or youth-centric. Spaces that allow young people to lead, to create, to imagine, to learn, and to have fun. Spaces that provide families more tools for cohesion and connection.
  • Produce the sacred, well-facilitated containers we need in order have the tender conversations, sometimes uncomfortable conversations that will help us heal the rifts and violence that take place within our families and communities
  • Teach the skills and tools that will help us re-imagine our relationships to earth, food, our bodies, economy, social-justice, parenting, self-love, self-esteem, religion/spirituality and more.
  • Are rooted in Ritual & Spirit and/or will connect us to our ancestors, our future selves, our dreams and desires, and our magic.
  • Allow us to access our sensuality, sexuality, pleasure, and erotic in safer, courageous, judgement free zones.

PLEASE FEEL FREE TO BE CREATIVE AND HAVE FUN! The sky is the limit.

WHAT WE OFFER PRESENTERS

  • $100 an hour for up to 5 hours of facilitation
  • A Meet & Greet, Orientation, and Facilitator Interdependence Group of two other presenters and a volunteer.
  • ASL, CART & other accessibility services so that these workshops and services can be as accessible & inclusive as possible
  • Promotion for you and your workshop across our social media, with our Community Partners, and on our website!
  • A Zoom Link if you need
  • Follow Up Opportunities for future gigs, as well as hosting you online for folks looking to hire Black healers.

Presenter Agreements

1. You will perpetuate no hate talk or violence in your workshop – this includes comments against other folks of color and ethnicities, queer/trans/non-binary people, fat people, disabled people, immigrants, sex workers, folks who have different religious beliefs, folks struggling with addiction, houseless people, or any sort of sexual harassment. This is a love space that we want to be safe and inclusive of ALL Black people.

2. You know how to safely hold a tender space, are skilled in de-escalation, can move folks through conflict and disagreement, and are willing to apologize or retract statements if needed. We want to create spaces of respite, and we also know that we bring a lot of hurt and trauma with us. Do you have the skills and capacity to navigate what might come up, hold your participants with compassion and love, and protect your own heart/spirit/energy?

3. You have capacity to support Black Healing October in the following ways:

  • Promote Our Fundraiser, Solidarity Healing September, on your social media & mailing list. This will help ensure that we are able to pay everyone involved. This looks like more than a simple re-paste. It means incorporating your words as you reach out to your supporters.
  • Promote Black Healing October & other workshops and offerings to as many Black folks as possible.
  • Participate in our Facilitator Interdependence Support Groups. This means that each presenter will be placed into a group with two other facilitators. The three of you will be responsible for attending each other’s workshops and offering tech support (such as monitoring the chat box) or acting as archivist/witness (taking notes on moments that feel super empowering and/or that feel hard and may need to be addressed later). Folks will be placed into groups during the Meet & Greet Orientation.

We will reach out to you within 1-7 days of your submission. If we think you’re a good fit based on this application, the next step is a short, 15-minute phone call.

Please CONTACT US with more questions.
We’re so excited to potentially collaborate.
