The Art of Unloving:

Dealing With the Aftermath of a Bad Relationship &
Owning the Part You Played With Dontá Morrison

My dream for Black healing is that the stigmas surrounding mental health are eradicated from the Black community. If we are going to heal our community we need to make the process safe, welcoming, and comforting for those who challenge themselves to seek out help. Healing has so many layers and I want the community to understand that tackling those layers will take time and effort by all. No one should be left out because the entire village needs to be made whole.

Event Goals, Hopes, & Outcomes

The hope of this workshop is to allow people to exhale and evaluate the experience in a healthy and safe manner. I want them to feel heard, respected, and affirmed. Yet, I also want them to be self-reflective and take ownership as needed. I want them to leave the workshop with a renewed and improved out look of themselves and past situations.

Presenter Bio

Dontá Morrison is a Los Angeles based community change agent focused on bridging gaps and improving the lives of marginalized individuals. He works tirelessly to change the way communities engage in conversations about sex, sexual behavior, and human sexuality. In addition, he serves in a consultative role with local non-profit organizations charged with bettering the lives of youth and young adults from diverse experiences and backgrounds.

“Participating in Black Healing October is important to me because as a survivor of so many negative experiences I understand the impact those traumas can have upon ones life. It is important that we are afforded safe spaces to grieve, be resuscitated, and breathe. Otherwise, the journey can become tedious and we find ourselves merely existing instead of living. I want to pour into those who feel empty and let them know that they are not alone.”
