Rest Is Always Possible With Black Dream Escape

Onika and Windafire, two happy light-skinned Black humans whisper in a huge pink flower.
Image description: Seated inside of neon hibiscus flowers, your Black Indigenous Rest Doulas, Onika Reigns and Windafire joyfully conspire to bring sleep / rest / dreams to Black, Indigenous people. Onika is smiling as Windafire whispers in her ear.

At present, Black Dream Escape is realizing our dream by preparing to open BlackSpace: A Home For Black Wholeness. Black Space will be a radical clinic honoring the traditional places to which Black, Indigenous people have always turned. (Your Granny, Cousin or Aunty’s home.) We envision BlackSpace as a place to come for spiritual, emotional and limited physical needs. In addition, we hope to be able to host Black Healers as visiting healing artists to offer services and workshops. BlackSpace will be a place where you can be peaceful and unapologetically Black and whole. We have the building. We’re working on turning it into BlackSpace. Our Instagram is a daily on-going reflection about Black Healing, Black Liberation and our future.

Event Description

Black Dream Escape will offer a collective rest session.  Using original music, meditations, storytelling, and breathwork that centers Black and Indigenous experience.  We will guide participants into a rested state. Time will be given afterwards to asses, reflect and offer feedback about how to develop a personal Rest Practice.

Who Is This Event For?

Black Dream Escape is an intentionally intergenerational collective. Each collective member’s lived experience intersects with a fairly broad spectrum of what is Black, Indigenous. We serve Black and Indigenous folks, of all ages, first and with priority given to working class individuals/ laborers. The focus is the fact that rest is not a luxury, self care is not bourgeois consumerism and our ancestors were experts at finding a way.

Workshop Goals, Hopes, & Outcomes

Black Dream Escape offers ThoughtPathways. We hope people will leave our workshop feeling rested and spiritually nourished. During the workshop we hope people will feel cared for, loved, seen, and unjudged. This, we believe is our greatest offering. We hope they will take away the tools they can use to begin their personal journey towards developing and implementing their own personal Rest Practice.

For information:

“Thought Pathways reject racist and capitalist notions of ownership and hierarchy as evidenced by a culture in which “self-help” is commodified by “experts” and “gurus.” Ancestral knowledge and/or common sense has been turned into a profitable, easily consumable product.  The American self-help market is an estimated 9.9 billion dollars annually.

This phrase, created by Black Dream Escape, makes it clear that we are human beings on our own journey.  We celebrate critical thinking and spiritual knowing. We honor process over product.”

Presenter Bio

Black Dream Escape is a therapeutic practice that focuses on Black and Indigenous rest/sleep/dreams. Black Dream Escape educates, guides, and soothes. Using original music and original meditation scripts, we guide people into a rested state. Our practices soothe the parts of the self that struggle with stillness, boredom, and self-worth. We educate individuals and the wider ethos about the overdue sleep and rest debt that Black and Indigenous people have been forced to accumulate.

“It is our mission to participate in events which center Black healing, especially those which honor traditionally Black or Indigenous ways of achieving health and well being. We would be honored to join together with others committed to doing this work. We believe Black rest is essential to Black health and wholeness.”
