Protect Your Magic 2.0 With Amira Aro

Image description: A photo of Amira, a light skinned Black person with a curly side ponytail, big black cat eye glasses, black lipstick, and a black shirt with a white spider web design all over looks calmly at the camera.

I dream of creating a safe house to provide Black MaGes shelter, clothing, food, mental health support, community, and reparations. I want to make a commune of sorts that exists only for healing and addresses as many needs as possible to make life a little easier for those of us who need it most in this country. An emotional oasis where Black MaGes can rest and needs are taken care of so they can focus solely on healing.

Event Description

We’re back! And this time talking about what does it mean to have boundaries as disempowered people navigating power imbalances in interpersonal relationships. How do we protect ourselves as Black MaGes, especially those of us who face the most extreme of oppression in a country that continues to disrespect and harm us? How does it affect our relationships with friends and loved ones even? And how to we assert our needs, personally and beyond?

Who Is This Event For?

Black MaGes (marginalized genders) and especially those of us who face ableism, colorism, fatphobia, homophobia, transphobia- any sort of marginalization that makes it that much harder to speak up and be heard about our boundaries.

Event Goals, Hopes, & Outcomes

For us to connect, hear, and hold space about what a journey and a fight it’s taken for us to make it this far, what lies ahead, and remembering we’re not alone in getting the protection we need. Discussing tools, ideas, and strategies to help build those “gates” and “fences”, or any other types of boundaries we need to protect ourselves, even on uneven playing fields.

Event Length

1.5 hours

Event Date and Time

Tuesday, October 27, 1:30-3:00 PM PT

Presenter Bio

Amira was born and raised on Shawnee/Haudenosaunee/Aniyunwiya land (Louisville, Ky), and currently lives on Lenape land (Philadelphia.) As a disabled exogender Black liberation organizer, they work hard to fight and make sure all Black lives are being protected and uplifted. They organize with the sole focus of protecting Black trans people. Finding food, housing, and funds, but deeply invested in finding long term solutions to help keep Black trans people protected before they reach a crisis situation. Currently they collaborate and work with Reclaim UGLY, and have a website with their blogs and vision for a Black trans safe house.

“Black MaGes don’t get told often enough that they are loved and worth protecting. We get told if we want a taste of freedom, keep going. But to keep going is tiring. And we deserve rest, and getting spoiled and cared for. And that’s my dream. All House of Liberosis aims to do is make Black MaGes lives easier in every way it can manage. And I’m hoping that any workshop or contribution I can share helps with even a tiny bit of healing for the most unprotected and disrespected among us.”
