White Healing Conversations (private event)

collage of four pictures of white people
Collage of four white people: in the upper left, a person with wispy blonde hair wearing a black shirt under a pink sweatshirt looking directly into the camera and smiling slightly with leafy green bushes in the background; in the upper right, a person with long brown hair blowing across their face, looking directly into the camera with bright sun lighting them up from the right; in the lower right, a person with long wavy brown hair chanting and marching in a sparkly silver leotard and carrying a sign that reads “Let’s Find Refuge in Community, Not Cops”; in the lower left, a person with short brown hair and smiling eyes who is wearing a fabric mask with Dorothy Allison on it.

“We want to see a world in which all living beings can thrive! We are committed to doing the external work to dismantle systems of white supremacy that foreclose that thriving. But what do we create in the place of those systems? In order to avoid replicating the same dysfunction in what we create, we have to heal from the ways our bodies, minds, and spirits have been misshapen by the myth of white supremacy. We are so grateful for Vanessa Lewis’s call to do this work!”

Event Description

When we (Nichola, Max, Dawn and Cecilia) heard Vanessa’s invitation to support Black Healing October through Solidarity Healing workshops, we decided to use this as an opportunity to dig deeper into the work of dismantling white supremacy and healing from white racial conditioning. We decided that rather than put together larger public workshops, that we wanted to create an intimate space to gather regularly with each other and a few more of our closest white friends to address some of the topics that are particularly alive for us right now. These topics include:

—What does it mean to be vital, alive white people? Is it possible to have dignity as a white person? Are we showing up whole in our relationships with people of color? What is this accountability thing and how do we do it?

—How are we being called to radical release, disbanding, divestment in our own organizations and lives right now, and how do we answer that call?

—What aspects of white supremacy culture might be showing up in our leadership these days?

—What about our white ancestors? Do we need to do something with/about them? How do we go about doing that work?
